Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring someone to my appointment with me?

Absolutely! First, we will take you back to complete the necessary paperwork needed for your visit. While completing your paperwork, you will be given a guest release consent form to sign that will allow your guest to join you. Once we receive the signed consent form, our staff will invite your guest to join you.

Do I need an appointment and what is the cost?

Walk-ins are welcome for picking up material supplies and pregnancy tests. However, we require an appointment be made in advance for ultrasounds. All of our services are free and no insurance is required.

What should I expect when I come for my initial visit?

You will be welcomed by one of our staff, who will guide you through your new client paperwork. Please be sure to bring a photo ID so that we can make a photocopy for our records. We will listen to you judgment-free and will address your need for the day by providing information and material resources based on your present need and what we have available. You will be given a welcome bag and a resource packet that includes other local organizations and what they have to offer.

What if my boyfriend or parent calls to see if I came in?

Water’s Edge adheres to strict privacy and confidentiality policy. Our clients will be protected from disclosure of information that violates the right to privacy except when required by law, required for public health reasons, required to avert a threat of harm to the client or third party, or when other reasons may warrant such use or disclosure without prior authorization (e.g., abuse reporting, suicide/homicide prevention, etc.).

At what point should I schedule an appointment?

We recommend that you make an appointment if you have missed your period, think you may be pregnant, have any pregnancy questions, or have had a positive home pregnancy test. Our medical-grade lab quality pregnancy tests can determine pregnancy at the first day after your missed period.

How long after sex does it take for a pregnancy test to work and how accurate is the test?

Our pregnancy tests may be performed 7-10 days after conception. A client with a negative result may return for a repeat test. If you have taken a home pregnancy test, we recommend you confirm your results with one of our medical grade lab quality tests at our center. Walk-ins are welcome.

Can I get an ultrasound and how far along do I have to be?

On-site ultrasounds are available after an initial intake visit with one of our nurses or client advocates. A pregnancy test must be taken before an ultrasound may be performed or a copy of a positive pregnancy test from your medical provider must be placed in your file prior to scheduling an ultrasound. Ultrasounds are performed a minimum of 6 weeks since your last menstrual period. Our limited ultrasounds are performed by a licensed nurse sonographer or an RDMS (registered sonographer) and reviewed by a licensed physician. An ultrasound confirms a viable pregnancy, how far along you are and provides confirmation that the pregnancy is correctly located in the uterus and not in the fallopian tubes resulting in an ectopic pregnancy.
